ELIZABETH, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2025) — Fire crews responding to a call on South Seventh Street Thursday got a surprise assist from a child who showed up in his own turnout gear, officials said.
The youngster climbed into the officer’s seat of Engine 1 during the response and was praised by members of the Elizabeth Fire Officers IAFF Local 2040 as a “future firefighter.”
Crews from Division Chief 4, Engine 1 and Ladder 2 were operating at a Signal 408 on the 400 block of South Seventh Street at the time.
