GARWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2025) — Firefighters in Garwood handled two separate incidents Sunday, beginning with a vehicle fire on South Avenue and later responding to a structure fire on Willow Avenue, officials said.
The first call came in the early morning hours, when Garwood and Cranford firefighters arrived to find a vehicle fully involved. Crews worked for about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze. The cause remains under investigation.
Later that day, Garwood firefighters were dispatched to the 100 block of Willow Avenue for a reported structure fire. Crews found moderate smoke inside and a tenant reporting flames in a first-floor bathroom.
Engine 3 stretched a hand line to the fire area while Truck 1 positioned an aerial at the corner of the building. Crews opened the bathroom ceiling, cooled the affected area, and ventilated the structure. Searches were negative, and the home was turned over to the occupant after air monitoring.
The Union County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the cause.
