Attleboro, Mass. — October 31 — Firefighters and paramedics from Attleboro and Foxborough coordinated care after a Foxborough Fire Department ambulance, while transporting a 3-year -old patient to the hospital, was involved in a minor motor vehicle crash.

9:29 a.m. Firefighters from the Attleboro Fire Department responded to North Main Street near Sheffield Road after reports of a crash involving a Foxborough ambulance and a second vehicle.

The ambulance rushed the child to Sturdy Health Emergency Department for allergic reaction treatment when a crash happened. No injuries were reported among first responders or drivers involved.

Foxborough firefighters and paramedics kept caring for the child after the collision until Attleboro Fire Department paramedics got there. The patient was then transferred to an Attleboro ambulance to continue the trip to the hospital. A Foxborough paramedic accompanied the child in the Attleboro ambulance and continued providing care alongside Attleboro paramedics during transport.

The coordinated transfer allowed patient care to continue while the transport unit was changed following the crash.

Attleboro Fire Chief Scott Lachance said he was thankful the crash was not more serious and that no one was injured. He also recognized the Foxborough crew for remaining focused on patient care despite being involved in the collision.

Ambulances from surrounding communities travel through Attleboro regularly while transporting patients to Sturdy Health Emergency Department. The incident highlighted the importance of cooperation between neighboring EMS agencies and maintaining continuity of care during an unexpected interruption to transport.

The Attleboro Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
