Fast Knockdown on the Roof: Firefighters Save Pittsford Middle School from Structural Damage

Pittsford, NY - A prompt response by the Pittsford Fire Department and regional mutual aid agencies prevented serious damage at Barker Road Middle School on Friday, quickly bringing a rooftop fire under control before it could penetrate the educational facility.

Emergency crews were dispatched on August 28 following reports of an active fire on the roof of the middle school campus. First-arriving companies identified a minor fire localized on the building's roof assembly and deployed attack operations to halt any potential downward spread into classroom or administrative spaces.

Thanks to the rapid deployment of personnel and equipment, firefighters suppressed the blaze in short order, keeping structural damage to a minimum and preventing interior extension.

The commercial and institutional response brought in extensive mutual aid across Monroe County. Fire suppression and scene support were provided by the Bushnell's Basin Fire Department, Henrietta Fire District, and Brighton Fire Department, while Pittsford Ambulance staged on scene for medical standby. Deputed units from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office assisted with perimeter security and site access throughout the incident.
