Morning Structure Fire at 165 Wellington Avenue Suppressed; Red Cross Assists Resident

Rochester, NY - Rochester Fire Department crews halted an attic fire that extended into interior structural walls on Wellington Avenue on Tuesday morning, bringing the blaze under control before it could consume the two-story residence.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to 165 Wellington Avenue on the morning of September 8 following reports of a working structure fire. First-arriving companies observed active smoke pushing from the attic and stretched an initial attack hoseline directly into the dwelling.

Upon reaching the upper level, crews located active fire burning within the attic and discovered the blaze had dropped into the building's structural wall cavities. Firefighters initiated an aggressive search for hidden fire, opening up ceilings and drywall while placing multiple attack lines into operation to saturate the exposed framing and stop void-space extension. Suppression efforts brought the fire under control at approximately 9:05 a.m.

Primary and secondary searches of the residence were completed and confirmed that no occupants were inside the home during the incident. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross was dispatched to the scene to provide emergency relocation and recovery assistance to one displaced adult resident. The cause and origin of the blaze remain under investigation by Rochester Fire Department investigators.
