Between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. this evening, Oakland firefighters responded to a commercial fire in a debris pile at the California Waste Solutions facility near the Port of Oakland. Crews quickly contained the flames to the area of origin, but roughly 20 firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour until heavy equipment could be used to separate and move the burning material. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
