Water Box Assignment Dispatched: Genoa Volunteer Fire Department Assists Scipio, Venice, Ledyard Fire District

GENOA, NY — Volunteer firefighters deployed frontline engine and tanker apparatus in the early morning hours Tuesday, providing vital fire suppression and water supply support as part of a large multi-agency response to a structure fire threatening nearby exposures.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on August 25, the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched on mutual aid to assist the Scipio Fire Department within the Scipio, Venice, Ledyard Fire District in Cayuga County for a reported active structure fire.

Genoa Engine 1 responded immediately with an initial crew of four firefighters to support direct fireground operations and exposure protection. Moments later, the department dispatched its tanker after incident command requested an expanded water box assignment to establish a sustained rural water supply shuttle to the fireground.

In total, Genoa committed seven active personnel to the scene alongside four additional members who stood by at the firehouse to maintain local district coverage and support logistics. Following extensive suppression, overhaul, and equipment decontamination, all Genoa units cleared the fireground and returned fully in service by 7:00 a.m.
