Commercial Facility Blaze: Multi-Agency Response Battles Major Fire at JMI Service Garage

FALCONER, NY — Firefighters from across Chautauqua County mobilized Friday afternoon to battle a major commercial fire that completely destroyed an industrial service garage on New York Avenue.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11, the Falconer Fire Department was dispatched to an active, working structure fire at the Jamestown Macadam, Inc. (JMI) facility. Arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and active fire conditions concentrated within the service garage.

Due to the substantial footprint of the building and the high-fire-load contents inside the repair facility, incident commanders immediately initiated mutual aid requests for additional apparatus, specialized equipment, and county emergency management resources. Responding suppression teams deployed multiple heavy handlines and coordinated exterior and master-stream operations to prevent flames from extending to nearby structures and primary plant operations.

Crews operated on scene for more than five hours, actively extinguishing deep-seated hot spots, monitoring environmental hazards, and executing overhaul procedures.

All operating units cleared the area and returned to service around 7:00 p.m. No civilian or first responder injuries were reported during the extensive emergency operation.
