Prospect Park, NJ — August 31 — The Prospect Park Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance to Hawthorne during a four-alarm fire that occurred on August 31. Prospect Park Unit 701 was dispatched to the scene and helped the emergency crews working there.
The fire started at the Hawthorne Tire Center on Goffle Road and grew in intensity, requiring more resources as the situation developed.
The incident was eventually classified as a four-alarm fire, which led to the deployment of firefighters and equipment from several different departments to aid in the response. Six firefighters were taken to hospitals due to smoke inhalation, but they were all later released from the hospital. The fire also caused damage to apartments located above the business, leading to the displacement of some residents.
The Prospect Park Fire Department had a team of trained volunteer personnel and equipment ready to handle various types of emergencies, including fires and rescue operations.
The department operated with two fire companies, and its personnel had received training through the Passaic County Fire Academy.
Mutual aid played a key role in the response, enabling different departments to assist one another and support nearby communities while the local crews worked on extended incidents.
