Mutual Aid Crews Assisted Hawthorne During Busy Storm Response

HAWTHORNE, NJ — September 12 — The Hawthorne Fire Department had a very busy morning on September 12 due to weather conditions that led to multiple service calls throughout the borough.

Shortly after 7 a.m., firefighters were called to Jefferson Place for a reported pole fire.

As they were responding, weather conditions started to change, which affected the area.In the following hours, the department handled more than 20 calls, including fire alarms, vehicles stuck in flood waters, and other water-related incidents.

Firefighters stayed on duty until around noon, working to manage the increased number of calls.

The National Weather Service had issued a flood watch for parts of northeastern New Jersey, expecting more heavy rain, which emphasized the importance of being ready for changing weather conditions.

The Hawthorne Fire Department received support from the Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Hawthorne Office of Emergency Management, and the Hawthorne Police Department.

The Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department also provided mutual aid by responding to a call while Hawthorne units were occupied with other tasks.

The department operated from 445 Lafayette Avenue and continued its coordinated response efforts throughout the morning.

Earlier in the summer, the department had already reported several storm-related incidents, including water rescues and flooding events.
