Hawthorne Fire Department Battled Goffle Road Structure Fire

HAWTHORNE, NJ — September 1 — The Hawthorne Fire Department was called to the Hawthorne Tire Center at 136 Goffle Road at 7:23 a.m.due to a reported fire.Chief 50 arrived and discovered a working fire in a 2½-story building that had commercial space on the lower level and residential apartments above.


Heavy black smoke was visible coming from the auto body shop.

Firefighters first tried to fight the fire from the inside, but they had to pull back as the fire conditions became more severe.Engine 1 and Rescue 5 searched the apartments above while additional fire alarms prompted other departments to provide mutual aid.


Firefighters continued their efforts until after noon to completely put out the fire and assist with the cleanup of fluids that had spilled onto the roadway.

Fire departments from Passaic and Bergen counties offered mutual aid, while other agencies provided support with coverage, emergency medical services, firefighter rehabilitation, traffic management, and hazardous material handling.
