BRIDGEWATER TWP, NJ — Firefighters operated along Interstate 287 early Sunday morning, using specialized power equipment to clear dense roadside vegetation and enable the safe recovery of a vehicle following a highway accident.

On the morning of Sunday, September 6, 2026, the Finderne Fire Department (Bridgewater Township Fire District 4) was dispatched to Interstate 287 in Somerset County to assist the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) at the scene of a single-vehicle collision.

Responding aboard Chief 30 and Engine 303, emergency personnel encountered a vehicle that had veered off the interstate corridor and become trapped amid roadside trees and heavy brush.

Fire crews deployed saws and clearing tools to rapidly cut back and remove the surrounding trees, creating a clear pathway for commercial recovery wreckers to safely hook, winch, and transport the vehicle from the scene.
