Heavy Truck Rollover: Green Knoll Crews Provide Hazard Control During Uprighting Operation

Somerset, NJ - First responders operated late Monday night to mitigate environmental hazards and provide safety standby following a commercial vehicle rollover at a major highway interchange.

Late on the night of August 31 (heading into the early morning hours of September 1), the Green Knoll Fire Department (Bridgewater Township Fire District 3) in Somerset County was dispatched to the highway connector ramp leading from Route 22 West to Interstate 287 South for a reported heavy commercial vehicle accident.

Arriving on location, emergency personnel encountered an overturned tri-axle dump truck obstructing the ramp. Operations were directed by Chief 34, with crews deploying aboard heavy rescue and tanker apparatus to establish comprehensive scene stabilization, traffic isolation, and fire protection.

Due to the substantial capacity of the vehicle's fuel tanks and hydraulic fluids, Somerset County HazMat responded to the scene to assess, contain, and mitigate active and potential chemical runoff. Firefighters stood by with charged handlines and specialized extrication and stabilization gear while heavy-duty commercial recovery wreckers rigged and safely uprighted the massive vehicle.
