Griggstown Tanker 35 Provides Vital Water Supply Support at Prolonged South Brunswick Fireground

Somerset, NJ - Regional fire apparatus mobilized for an intensive, eight-hour tactical water shuttle operation late last month to supply continuous master streams at a heavy commercial fire.

At 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the Griggstown Fire Company (Station 35) of Franklin Township Fire District #2 in Somerset County was dispatched on mutual aid to assist the Monmouth Junction Volunteer Fire Department on Broadway Road in South Brunswick, Middlesex County.

Responding units encountered a massive, deep-seated mulch pile and debris fire requiring an overwhelming volume of continuous water delivery far exceeding the capability of standard local hydrants. Griggstown’s Tanker 35 integrated directly into a large-scale, multi-agency tanker task force and water shuttle network composed of specialized apparatus from Middlesex, Somerset, Monmouth, Mercer, and Union counties.

Crews operated in continuous fill-and-dump rotations between remote static water points and portable fireground drop tanks to ensure frontline suppression engines maintained uninterrupted water pressure.

The firefighters aboard Tanker 35 operated on scene for approximately eight hours before the blaze was brought under control and units were released to return to quarters.
