Litchfield Fire Assists in Appalachian Trail Rescue

September 6, 2025 — At 11:45 a.m., Litchfield Fire Department responded to Salisbury as part of the Northwest Regional Ropes Rescue Team for an injured hiker located approximately three miles in on the Appalachian Trail.
Working against approaching storms, rescuers safely assessed, packaged, and extricated the patient using a Stokes basket, wheel, and multiple rope systems. The patient was transferred to the care of Salisbury Ambulance just as severe weather began moving into the area.
