Raritan Township Fire Crews Make Fast Work of Highway Engine Compartment Blaze

Raritan TWP, NJ - Firefighters moved swiftly to contain a fully involved vehicle fire along a major highway corridor before flames could spread to surrounding brush or roadway hazards.

Emergency responders were alerted shortly after 10:00 AM on September 6 to reports of a vehicle fire along Route 12 in Hunterdon County. Arriving units from the Raritan Township Fire Company encountered heavy smoke and active fire consuming the vehicle's engine compartment.

Fire crews immediately deployed an attack handline, making an aggressive knock on the engine bay to swiftly suppress the fire and bring the incident under control. The fast knockdown prevented fuel line failure and kept the fire from advancing into the passenger cabin.

Apparatus operating on scene included Squad 21, Engine 21-1, Brush 21, and Chief 21. Firefighters worked alongside the Raritan Township Police Department and New Jersey State Police to manage highway traffic and ensure scene safety, while the Raritan Township Fire Marshal’s Office assisted with post-fire investigation. Crews completed overhaul and fully cleared the roadway in under 45 minutes.
