HANNACROIX, NY – Fire crews were called to a home in Alcove on Sunday, June 8th, for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters responded to 899 Alcove Rd at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Assistant Chief Matt Marlow of the Medway-Grapeville Fire Departments arrived on scene and reported flames on the first and second floors of the home, near the rear of the residence.
He said crews began an interior attack, and mutual aid from multiple agencies was requested.
Crews utilized tankers to fill portable ponds to supply water on scene.
Agencies on scene and on standby included Medway-Grapeville, New Baltimore, Coeymans Hollow, Greenville, Earlton, Coxsackie, Westerlo, and Onesquethaw fire departments. Ravena Rescue and Greene County Paramedics were also on scene.
Marlow stated that five individuals and two dogs were home at the time of the fire. All people and pets made it out safely, with no injuries reported.
The Red Cross assisted the family members.
Marlow said half the building had to be demolished, though a bedroom at the other end of the home was preserved.
Following the investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical arcing in the home's panel box.
