Although some areas saw what appeared to be substantial rain yesterday, it wasn’t enough to provide the deep soaking needed to reduce fire danger. Conditions remain High, and burn permits will not be issued until further notice.

Today, Belfast Fire & EMS, along with Morrill and Searsmont Volunteer Fire Departments and the Maine State Forest Service, assisted Belmont Fire Department with a wildfire in a remote forest area. The fire, caused by a lightning strike yesterday, was spotted by a Maine Forest Service helicopter, with location details relayed to Waldo County Regional Communications.

Outstanding teamwork by all agencies involved. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Stay safe, everyone.
