FERRISBURGH, VT — AUGUST 15 — The Ferrisburgh Volunteer Fire Department responded to Kingsland Bay Point around 3:21 p.m.to assist two kayakers who were in the water.Marine 1 and six personnel, including a rescue swimmer, were dispatched, and mutual aid was requested from the Vergennes Fire Department and Charlotte Fire & Rescue.

Ferrisburgh crews launched Marine 1 from Ferrisburgh Town Beach as Charlotte Marine 1 joined the search efforts.

The two overturned kayaks were found near Macdonough Point.Charlotte crews recovered both kayakers and their kayaks, and both groups assessed the individuals for possible minor injuries and cold exposure.

The kayakers were then transferred to Ferrisburgh Marine 1 and taken back to shore.

Neither person needed to be transported to a hospital.Vergennes Fire Department deployed marine resources and had a drone available to assist with the search.

The response highlighted the importance of mutual-aid coordination, effective radio communication, precise location data, and the use of personal flotation devices during changing lake conditions.

Ferrisburgh operates within a coordinated local fire coverage system with the Vergennes Fire Department.
