Detour on Howe Hill: Crews Respond to School Bus Crash, No Students Involved

Pomfret, VT - Pomfret Fire and Pomfret Fast Squad responded to a reported school bus crash on Howe Hill Road involving a single-vehicle incident.


On September 3, 2026, in Windsor County, Vermont, crews arrived to find the bus off the roadway following the crash. Initial reports confirmed that no students were onboard at the time, significantly reducing the severity and allowing responders to focus on driver assessment and scene safety.


Fire and EMS personnel worked alongside Woodstock Ambulance to evaluate the driver, who was transported for medical evaluation and later released from the hospital. Crews ensured the scene remained secure while hazard mitigation and vehicle recovery operations were coordinated.


Sabil and Son responded to assist with towing and removal of the bus from the roadway. Firefighters remained on scene until the area was fully cleared, traffic hazards were addressed, and normal travel conditions were restored.
