WESTERLY, R.I. (Sept. 2, 2025) — The Westerly Fire Department held a pinning ceremony Tuesday evening to recognize the promotion of Edward W. Haik to third assistant chief.

The 6:30 p.m. event drew department members, local fire officials, family and friends to celebrate Haik’s service and new role.

Haik, a 28-year veteran of the department, has held positions including firefighter, lieutenant, captain and foreman of Alert Hook & Ladder Co. 1. His wife, Sue, pinned his new badge, joined by their children Emily, Marcus and Sydney, with daughter Alisa attending remotely.

Chief Mackay and Assistant Chief Morrone offered remarks highlighting Haik’s dedication and the traditions of the fire service. Closing comments reflected on the commitment of all members who serve the community.
