WESTERLY, R.I. (Aug. 12, 2025) — Volunteers with the Westerly Fire Department pumped their 1927 Ahrens Fox fire engine Tuesday night, marking the truck’s first time in service action since 1969.

The demonstration, led by retired Assistant Chief Tom Keena, put Engine 2 — assigned to the Cyclone Steam Fire Engine Company No. 2 — back to work more than five decades after it last pumped water at a fire.

The historic truck is often seen in parades, but firefighters said it was a rare opportunity to operate the engine under real conditions.
