On Tuesday, 12 August 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., the South Killingly Fire Department, with mutual aid support, responded to a structure fire at 194 Cook Hill Road. Crews arrived at the scene of a fully-involved two-story detached garage and immediately began fire suppression efforts to prevent the blaze from spreading to the nearby residence and several vehicles.
Supported by additional departments—Danielson Fire Department, East Killingly Fire Department, Moosup Fire Department, Attawaugan Fire Department, Atwood Hose Fire Company, Dayville Fire Company, Mortlake Fire Company, KB Ambulance, and South Foster (RI) Fire Department—the team succeeded in knocking down the bulk of the fire in under an hour. The garage and multiple vehicles were a total loss, but the adjacent home was saved, and no injuries were reported.
Fire operations concluded by 4:08 a.m., with all units clearing the scene. The Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. The response highlighted the effectiveness of regional coordination and firefighter preparedness in preventing further loss.
