Fire Rescue Meets Hit-and-Run

Thursday, 4 September 2025, at 1:18 a.m. – The South Killingly Fire Department responded to a serious car vs. utility pole crash with fire at 190 Wauregan Road, according to local emergency dispatch and incident updates. Upon arrival, first responders found live power lines down across the roadway, creating a significant safety hazard. (WFSB report)
The lone occupant had already self-extricated from the vehicle and refused medical treatment or transport. Eversource crews were dispatched to secure the fallen lines, and Ct. Department of Transportation (DOT) closed the roadway temporarily to facilitate safe removal and repairs. Fire personnel cleared the scene by 3:10 a.m., with traffic restored following the operation.
During the response, a white Dodge Ram struck a fire department roadblock apparatus and fled eastbound. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured, and Rescue 102 remained operational. Authorities are seeking assistance from the public to identify the vehicle and its occupants.
The incident remains under ongoing investigation by the Connecticut State Police. Anyone with information pertaining to the Dodge Ram involved in the hit-and-run is urged to contact Troop K.
