Horse Rescued from Thompson Swamp

On Monday evening, 11 August 2025, the Pomfret Fire Department assisted local partners in rescuing a horse trapped in a swamp in Thompson’s Quinebaug section. Crews worked skillfully with specialized horse rescue equipment to free the animal and safely return her to her stable, marking a successful outcome for all involved.

This operation marked the first collaboration between Pomfret Fire and those local responders, and officials praised the effective teamwork and coordination. A representative shared, “A lot of great minds and our specialized horse rescue equipment worked well together for this great outcome.”

As of the latest update, there was no information on the exact swamp location or how long the horse had been stuck, but the rescue was completed without injury to the animal or any responders.
