WASHINGTON, N.H. (Aug. 18, 2025) — Firefighters in Washington were dispatched Monday afternoon after the Kearsarge Fire Tower reported smoke in the area of Ayers Pond, officials said.

Crews confirmed smoke was visible from town but could not locate the source after searching trails by UTV and on foot.

The Hillsboro Police Department deployed a drone that pinpointed the fire, estimated at under two acres, burning in a remote mountain area accessible only by foot.

Washington firefighters said they will assemble with mutual aid crews Tuesday morning to assess the fire and begin moving water and equipment into the area.
