Bergenfield - Firefighters fought to bring a 3rd alarm fire under control mid-day on September 5th, after a fire broke out in a home in the south end of town.
At 12:15pm, Bergenfield FD was dispatched to 11 Carnation St for a reported fire in the basement. Captain Garafano arrived on scene reporting heavy smoke showing from the second floor and transmitted the working fire. Engine 3 arrived on scene and stretched an 1.75" attack line to the front door as heavy black smoke pushed from the front door and heavy fire vented from the basement window on the Delta side. Engine 1 arrived on scene followed by Englewood Truck 2 and assisted on the interior attack. Heavy fire in the basement extended to the first floor in the rear and eventually to the 2nd floor. A second alarm was transmitted, followed by a 3rd alarm shortly after. Four hand lines were stretched as interior crews battled an aggressive interior attack with fire running the walls on all floors, eventually venting from a 2nd floor window. The fire was brought under control in under an hour. No injuries were reported. Mutual aid from Englewood, Dumont, New Milford, Teaneck, and Tenafly assisted on scene. At the time of the fire, mutual aid companies responded to a MVA with rollover that was handled by out of town companies. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
