Fairfield, ME - Fort Fairfield Fire Rescue responded to a reported fire at Lucerne Farms on Easton Road, where crews arrived to find a burning chopped forage pile requiring immediate action to prevent extension.
On August 13, 2026, in Somerset County, firefighters quickly assessed the situation and requested additional assistance from Easton Fire Department and Presque Isle Fire Department to support suppression efforts. Crews worked in coordination with farm staff to break apart and spread the smoldering forage pile, allowing for complete extinguishment and reducing the risk of rekindle.
Operations focused on thoroughly soaking and overhauling the material, ensuring heat was eliminated deep within the pile. The extended nature of the incident required sustained effort and close monitoring as crews methodically worked through the entire area to bring conditions under control.
Fire units remained on scene for several hours until the area was deemed safe and the scene was turned back over to Lucerne Farms. The incident highlighted strong coperation between responding departments and farm personel, whose combined efforts ensured a safe and effective outcome.
