Tremont, ME - Tremont Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a reported overturned small sailboat near Algerian Shore off Cape Road, where occupants were reported in the water following a capsize close to the rocky shoreline.

On arrival, responders found that nearby vessel traffic had already initiated immediate assistance, with two lobster boats playing a key role in stabilizing the situation. One vessel transported an individual safely to Seal Cove Dock, while the second remained alongside the overturned sailboat, assisting the remaining sailor and helping guide both person and craft toward shallower water near the shoreline where emergency crews were assembling.

The incident, which occurred on 27 August in Hancock County, unfolded during a busy coastal afternoon and quickly transitioned into a coordinated recovery effort involving multiple marine and shore-based responders.

Tremont Fire personnel, working alongside the Harbor Master and town officials, assisted in recovering the overturned sailboat from the rocky shoreline. Crews carefully maneuvered the vessel up from the beach area and secured it for transport, ensuring no further hazard remained to nearby boaters or shoreline visitors.

A United States Coast Guard rescue boat from Southwest Harbor also responded to support waterside operations and ensure scene safety throughout the incident. Both occupants were confirmed to have been wearing appropriate personal flotation devices and were safely accounted for, with no injuries reported.

Through fast action by local fishermen, coordinated shoreline response, and Coast Guard support, the incident was brought to a safe and efficient conclusion without further escalation.
