HUDSON, Maine (Aug. 2, 2025) — Fire crews battled a blaze overnight on an island in Pushaw Lake that destroyed several small buildings and left one firefighter with minor injuries.
Hudson Fire & Rescue was notified of the fire around midnight. With help from Bradford Fire & Rescue, Glenburn Fire Department, the Maine Forest Rangers, Old Town Fire Rescue and G&H Ambulance Service, crews worked through the night to contain the blaze.
Access to the scene posed major challenges, with firefighters navigating shallow waters by boat in darkness.
Officials said no civilians were believed to have been injured. The fire destroyed a couple of small buildings and burned into the ground in several areas, causing smoldering hot spots that will last for days.
Hudson fire officials said they, along with the Maine Forest Service, will monitor the area closely. Smoke will continue to be visible on the lake, but residents are urged to call only if they see large flames.
Authorities also warned boaters and visitors to avoid the island, citing dangerous rocky terrain and unstable ground after the fire.
