MONROE, Conn. (Aug. 29, 2025) — A house fire broke out early Friday on the 200 block of Turkey Roost Road, leaving the home uninhabitable but causing no injuries, officials said.

Firefighters arrived shortly before 7 a.m. to find heavy flames coming from two upstairs bedroom windows. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and contained the fire to the room of origin and attic. Searches confirmed no residents or pets were inside.

The house sustained significant heat and smoke damage. Officials said the home is not currently livable.

Because there are no hydrants in the area, additional tankers were requested from Newtown and Oxford but ultimately were not needed. Long Hill and White Hills fire departments each provided engine crews on scene, while Trumbull Center firefighters covered the town for other emergencies.

Chief K. Catalano praised crews for their work under difficult conditions, including hauling equipment up a long, steep driveway.

“We remind residents of the importance of quickly evacuating and not going back inside, and of having working smoke alarms in each bedroom, in the hallway outside of the bedrooms, and on each other floor of the home,” Catalano said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears unintentional, fire officials said.

Assisting at the scene were Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company, Stepney Fire Department, Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Inc., Botsford Fire Rescue, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue, and White Hills Fire Company of Shelton.
