ROXBURY, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2025) — A heavy truck veered off Scudder Hill and crossed state Route 30 into the woods Thursday, forcing a six-hour partial shutdown of the highway, officials said.
No one was seriously injured, but firefighters said traffic at the scene created close calls for volunteers working to control the roadway.
“Please slow down and be patient, we are volunteers trying to make it home at the end of the day,” Roxbury Volunteer Fire Company said in a statement.
The crash happened around noon, and crews worked until 6 p.m. to remove the vehicle from a difficult location, according to fire officials. Gerster Trucking provided a tow, while Hubble Inc. brought in a bulldozer to clear a path.
Mutual aid from Margaretville and Halcottsville fire departments helped direct traffic. A bystander also delivered cases of bottled water to crews working in the heat.
Firefighters urged drivers to use caution and show respect when approaching emergency scenes.
