A dumpster fire behind a restaurant in Slingerlands was extinguished and quickly pulled away from the building on Sunday, July 17.
The Slingerlands Fire Department was dispatched for the dumpster fire behind 1365 New Scotland Rd at the Bellini’s Restaurant location at 8:45 p.m. Sunday night.
Fire chiefs arrived on the scene and advised dispatch they had a well-involved dumpster fire against the building and next to additional dumpsters.
Slingerlands fire chiefs and Bethlehem Police used a chain and connected one end to the dumpster and the other end to the chief's vehicle and pulled the dumpster away from the building.
Assistant Chief Jason Tice of Slingerlands Fire says they carry these chains in their vehicles in the event of a car fire inside a garage or next to a house, but it worked in this instance as well.
The first engine arrived and knocked the fire down without any exposure issues.
A second engine arrived and the crew checked the other dumpsters and the building to ensure they were cool enough and that no fire had spread.
Crews quickly packed up and returned to service.
