HOPKINTON, R.I. (Monday, Aug. 11, 2025) — A man was rescued Monday evening after being trapped under a concrete slab at a construction site in Ashaway, officials said.
The Ashaway Volunteer Fire Association said crews were dispatched just after 5 p.m. along with the Ashaway Ambulance Association and Hopkinton police. When Car 403 arrived, responders learned on-site machinery had lifted the 1,500-pound slab off the patient.
Firefighters stabilized the slab with struts and cribbing while EMS provided care. The patient was extricated and taken to Crandall’s Field, where he was transferred to a Boston MedFlight helicopter after Life Star was unavailable.
The Westerly Ambulance Corps also sent a paramedic to assist Ashaway EMS.
Officials said the coordinated effort ensured a safe rescue and rapid transport.
