Caribou, ME - Caribou Fire & Ambulance Department units were dispatched following reports of smoke and fire in the area east of Adams Road in Connor Township, Maine, with multiple 911 calls reporting visible smoke conditions from a distance.

On 28 August 2026, Engine 2 and Truck 7 responded while transporting UTV 8, with support from a Maine Forest Ranger. Due to the remote and initially unclear location, crews encountered difficulty pinpointing the exact seat of the fire, with heavy smoke and wind conditions complicating the response.

After locating the incident in a gravel pit off Beaulieu Road, crews found an approximately quarter-acre slash pile fire actively burning. Firefighters initiated suppression operations using hose lines and water application while also saturating surrounding areas to prevent fire spread into nearby wooded terrain.

The Maine Forest Service coordinated additional support, including the use of a bulldozer and operator to assist in containment efforts and break up burning material. Crews operated for several hours under challenging conditions, utilizing approximately 6,500 gallons of water before successfully bringing the fire under control.

The incident was ultimately contained to the immediate area with no extension into the surrounding forest. The cause remains under investigation by the Maine Forest Service, and crews continue to monitor the site for any remaining hot spots or smoldering debris.
