DEPOSIT, N.Y. (Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025) — Deposit firefighters reviewed relay pumping and foam operations this week as part of ongoing training to strengthen their firefighting capabilities, officials said.

Relay pumping is used when no nearby water source is available. Instead of shuttling water by tanker, multiple trucks are connected by hose to pump water continuously from a source to the fire scene, ensuring a steadier supply, according to the department.

The drill also focused on the department’s Foam Task Force, which consists of three apparatus: a squad, an engine and a telesquirt. Crews reviewed the use of Class A foam, which penetrates embers and prevents rekindles, and Class B foam, which forms a vapor-suppressing blanket to control flammable liquid fires and spills.

Officials said the training helps firefighters prepare for both structural and hazardous materials incidents.
