Deposit firefighters handle hazmat incident, refuse fire, and medevac landing zone

DEPOSIT, N.Y. (Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025) — Deposit firefighters responded to multiple calls Thursday, including a hazardous materials incident, a refuse fire and establishing a landing zone for a medical helicopter, officials said.
Earlier in the day, the Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services assisted Hancock EMS by setting up a medevac landing zone on Leonard Way, according to the department.
Later, crews were dispatched to both a hazmat situation and a refuse fire, with firefighters also assisting EMS personnel during the incidents.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the hazmat and fire incidents was not immediately released.
