OSSINING, NY — August 7 — Millwood firefighters participated in a major mutual-aid operation on Friday evening as a four-alarm fire broke out at the Part Knolls apartment complex located on Hawks Avenue in Assigning.

The Millwood Fire Company, based at 100 Mill wood Road in Millwood, was the first department to respond to the incident.

Engine 247 was dispatched with around a dozen firefighters, and Tanker 15 was assigned to support the extended water-supply efforts. Both Engine 247 and Tanker 15 are listed as part of Millwood's official station equipment.

Water supply was a significant challenge during the fire.

Ossining Fire Department officials stated that total 12 tankers were involved, and crews also used water from a nearby pond and swimming pool to help meet the demand for water.

According to the information provided by the responding department, Tanker 15 was involved in the shuttle operation for about 10 hours.

Engine 247 was able to establish a water source from a nearby pond. A Millwood crew also stayed in its own district and set up a fill site at Station 2 to support the operating operation.

The building that was affected was a three-story structure containing 24 units.

Seven families were evacuated during the incident, and there were no reports of injuries or loss of life. The fire required the involvement of more than 30 agencies and lasted into the early morning hours.

Later, the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services concluded that the fire was caused by a direct lightning strike.
