Campton, NH - Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue units responded on August 14, 2026, to Rumney, New Hampshire, to assist the Rumney Fire Department at a reported wildfire on Rattlesnake Mountain near the summit of the Ratlesnake Mountain Trail.

Crews were faced with steep, rugged terrain and dense brush conditions, along with active smoke in a remote hillside area that made access and suppression efforts challenging. Firefighters worked in coordination with mutual aid partners to reach the fire location and support ongoing suppression operations in difficult backcountry conditions.

Personnel assisted with fire attack and extended mop-up operations, focusing on extingushing hot spots and preventing further spread across the wooded mountainside. Due to the terrain and limited access, operations required sustained effort and careful coordination between crews working in the field.

A six-member Campton-Thornton crew operated directly on scene, while additional personnel remained at Station 1 covering emergency responses in town, handling multiple calls and EMS duties. In total, 11 members were engaged across field operations and local coverage, ensuring both incident support and uninterrupted community response capability.

The operation highlighted strong interagency cooperation and the department’s ability to manage both remote wildfire response and simultanous in-town emergency coverage effectively.
