AVENEL, NJ — July 28, 2026 —  On Tuesday, firefighters were called to a reported vehicle fire involving a loaded car carrier at the junction of St. Georges Avenue and Avenel Street.

Arriving responders discovered the carrier with an active fire involving the brakes, according to the Avenel Fire Department.

By disconnecting a portion of the trailer, the truck driver was able to lessen the area that was exposed to the fire and keep some of the vehicles away from the immediate danger.

Before the fire could spread to the other cars on the carrier, firefighters swiftly put it out with a handline.
