HILLSIDE, N.J. (Monday, July 7, 2025) — All tours of the Hillside Fire Department completed their annual confined space drill this week, simulating rescues in hazardous environments with limited entry and exit points, officials said.
The training, coordinated by Training Officer Capt. E. Trela, focused on scenarios inside spaces such as tanks, tunnels and silos — areas not designed for continuous occupancy.
Department officials noted the importance of such training in Hillside, where numerous confined spaces exist, including the White Claw factory on North Union Avenue.
“These environments can be extremely dangerous, and this drill ensures our crews are prepared to respond quickly and safely,” the department said in a statement.
No injuries were reported during the exercise.
