WARREN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sunday, July 20, 2025) — An overturned tractor-trailer carrying hazardous materials shut down all three lanes of Interstate 78 West for nearly six hours Sunday morning, officials said.
The Warren Township Fire Department was dispatched at 6:19 a.m. near Exit 36. Rescue 61 and members of the Mount Bethel Fire Company responded alongside New Jersey State Police to stabilize the scene.
Somerset County HazMat was called after the trailer was found to be transporting hazardous materials.
The highway remained closed until the incident was resolved safely through a coordinated effort of multiple agencies. No injuries were reported.
