A one-alarm fire in a three-story multi-family home on Avenue C displaced four residents Saturday morning and sent one firefighter to the hospital with a heat-related injury, officials said.

The Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched at 10:18 a.m. to 180 Avenue C after reports of smoke. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the third floor and used two hand lines to extinguish flames in the attic, according to Fire Chief Keith Weaver.

All occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived. The blaze was brought under control within minutes and contained to the attic area.

The cause of the fire appears to be electrical, though the official investigation is ongoing. The displaced residents are being assisted by Bayonne’s Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross.

“I want to thank our firefighters and the Bayonne Fire Canteen for their support at the scene,” Weaver said.
