JACOBSTOWN, NJ - A Tesla that caught fire in early August reignited more than a day later after being moved to a secure location, keeping local volunteer firefighters busy for two straight days, officials said.
The first fire was reported just before 1 p.m. on Monday, August 4th, behind a business on Georgetown Road. Responding crews were told the burning vehicle was a Tesla and called for additional assistance. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, though it was unclear whether the battery pack had been involved. The car was later towed from the scene.
Roughly 27 hours later, a second vehicle fire was dispatched at the secure lot where the Tesla had been relocated. Fire officials said this time the battery pack was involved. Crews knocked back the flames, then allowed the battery to burn down while controlling the spread.
The vehicle was later flipped into a dumpster and covered with moist sand to contain the fire, according to the department.
Mutual aid that assisted during this incident included Westampton FD, Medford FD, Chesterfield FD, Wrightstown VFC, Cookstown VFC, JBMDL Fire, New Egypt Fire Co, and Hope Fire Co.
No injuries were reported.
