Firefighters battled heavy flames in a detached garage Monday evening, working for hours in stifling heat and humidity before declaring the fire out, officials said.
Station 82 was dispatched at 6:46 p.m. for a reported outer building fire. Chief 82 arrived within minutes along with Squad 88, Tower Ladder 82, Engine 82 and Rescue 82, and found advanced fire conditions in a large garage, according to the department.
Chief 82 upgraded the call to an “all hands” response as crews mounted an aggressive attack. The fire was brought under control soon after, but firefighters remained on scene until about 1 a.m. performing overhaul and full extinguishment.
Officials thanked mutual aid partners for their support during what they described as a challenging operation in oppressive weather.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
