On August 8, 2026, at 4:40 PM, the Professional dispatchers in the city of Albany began to receive multiple calls for a structure fire at 526 Hamilton Street. Engine seven, engine one, engine ten, the rescue squad, truck three, rescue one, truck two, truck four, Mohawk Ambulance Service, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. Engine seven arrived on scene and immediately transmitted the signal thirty as they had smoke showing from the roof of the structure. Firefighters immediately deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line to the front door of the structure and made their way to the second floor as additional firefighters arrived on scene and immediately began to conduct a primary search of the building. The battalion chief immediately requested the main frequency to be dedicated to the fire.
Firefighters made their way to the second floor and conducted a primary search and began to search for the location of the fire. As the third due engine company arrived on scene, they established a water supply to engine seven from a hydrant down the street. The primary search on the second floor for any human life was negative, but firefighters were able to rescue a dog from the second floor and bring it outside to the rear yard. Firefighters conducted a primary search of the first floor, and no occupants were located and command was immediately notified. Firefighters on the second floor began to pull the ceilings to locate the seat of the fire and additionally the truck company on the roof began to vent the roof as they had heavy smoke traveling the cockloft from front to back. Firefighters put another hand line in place and began to pull the ceilings on the second floor. As firefighters were pulling the ceiling the smoke condition on the exterior portion of the structure began to intensify.
Firefighters continue to work on the second floor opening up the ceiling exposing the significant fire condition in the cockloft and as they were doing so the truck companies on the roof notified command that they now had fire pushing through the roof of the structure. Firefighters knockdown the heavy fire condition in the attic area and continue to conduct extensive overhaul to pull apart the ceiling to get to all of the remaining hotspots. Firefighters on the roof began to pull apart a portion around the chimney where they had significant extension and firefighters on the second floor continue to knock it down.
No injuries have been reported. The fire was brought under control, and Fire Investigators were brought in to conduct their investigation into what caused the fire. The Red Cross was contacted for the occupants of the structure. Firefighters went back in service later that afternoon.
