Members of the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 were dispatched Tuesday night as part of a regional strike team responding to a water emergency in Paterson, officials said.
The call came at about 9:15 p.m. Aug. 12. Engine 1512 and its crew, under the command of Bargaintown Lt. Josh Treat, were sent to Passaic County to assist. Paterson has been coping with a ruptured water main that has strained firefighting operations for several days.
Other departments responding included the 177th Fire Department, Weekstown Fire Department, Richland Fire Department and Mullica Township Fire Department.
Officials said the strike teams are helping to ensure fire protection and emergency coverage while the city addresses the water crisis.
Cardiff fire officials urged safety for all members deployed, saying crews are facing “difficult conditions” as they assist Paterson.
