NORWICH, CT - At 10:34 P.M. on Tuesday, August 20th, the Norwich Fire Department with East Great Plain Ladder 5 and Yantic Engine 33 were dispatched to 63 Alice Street for a garage fire. Engine 3 arrived at 10:38 P.M. with fire showing from the first-floor of a garage that was attached to a two-and-a-half-story wood-frame residence.
Engine 3 laid a supply line up the driveway and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line through the front door to protect the home. Squad A connected to the 5-inch at the bottom of the driveway and reverse laid to a hydrant. Truck 1 removed the garage door and threw ladders. Engine 2 stretched a line to the front of the garage knocking a large volume of fire.
Engine 33 stretched a line to the second-floor while they opened up with Ladder 5 to check for extension. Rescue 5 filled air cylinders while the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department provided the FAST. Battalion 1 had command and Car 30 was safety.
Command transmitted the second-alarm, but was able to downgrade them to station coverage since crews had the bulk of the fire knocked with in 15 minutes. The American Red Cross responded and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
