On Wednesday August 5th 2026 the Stony Brook Fire Department hosted a large scale multi agency water rescue training. The training took place in the Long Island Sound. The training evolution consisted of a 106th Rescue Wing pararescue swimmers deploying into the water from a black hawk helicopter to assist a simulated distressed swimmer, transferring the patient to local fire department rescue boats for transport to shore, where emergency medical personnel provided simulated treatment.
