At around 4 p.m. on July 20, the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department arrived at a reported house fire on Barn Hill Road.
The fire was restricted to one room by firefighters using an interior approach. A dog who was discovered in a crate while the resident was away was also saved by the crews. The rest of the unit experienced substantial smoke damage and was rendered unusable, while one room had severe fire damage. There was little smoke damage to the adjacent unit.
Along with Monroe EMS and police, about thirty firefighters from Monroe, Stevenson, and Stepney were on the scene. There were no reported injuries. For overhaul and ventilation, crews stayed for around ninety minutes. The cause was still being investigated and seemed to be accidental.
